Shakira arrived at BCDH in the back of a pickup truck with her five brothers and sisters. The puppies were only a few months old, but couldn’t even lift their heads as they were so weak from the Parvo virus that caused them to lose their appetite and energy. The highest level of care was given and each of the puppies made a full recovery. However, while receiving treatment, the vets from the Phitsanulok Animal Hospital discovered that Shakira has a condition called Megaesophagus. This restricts her from eating solid food, and for the rest of her life, she will need to eat softened food poured into her mouth from a height. Since settling into her “furever” home, Shakira has bonded with Ruby and Bowie, two other energetic puppies that came to BCDH shortly after Shakira did.
